This is one of those weeks. The ones where you find yourself counting backwards from 100 a million times trying to be calm and collected. Pull up those big girl panties and just get through it. Really, it is epic. There were a million awesome sparks this week, they were just drowned out by some external stressors. The ones that make your whole body tense. Start counting.

We are dog-sitting the ever loving Rottie, Golda. She’s 100 lbs of stupid. But, for this week, she is my 100 lbs of stupid. Someone in her previous life clearly terrified her, and even though she drools on everything, is in heat, trips over me, clings to me, smells like farts, and with my two already, it’s a combined fusion of brain cells that has me just hoping no more toes get damaged in the process… My house is covered in fur and she is in heat. But she’s mine.

Golda has made so much progression since the first time she came to visit. She no longer hides under the end table, she no longer drops to the ground when we move around, paces, or gets violently ill. But, she is still troubled and it still breaks my heart. It’s been at least 3 years in a new and loving home, and she still flinches. Still hides and puts herself far away from the other dogs. It upsets me that that much damage was done to her in the past and I hope one day she can fully act like a dog without fear.

So, for now, for this week, messes and all, I’m counting backwards and enjoying the time. Golda leaves again on Sunday, and I know come Monday morning, I will be missing her greatly.

  1. She sounds like a great dog. My heart breaks to read how she behaves. Animal cruelty is an inexcusable act. Thanks for loving her the way she deserves.

    1. She is SUCH a sweetie. It’s crazy to see such a big dog so afraid of everything. And, yes, she ruins my home, but here I am sitting without her this morning missing her like crazy. Thank you so much for the support!
